The Breville Bambino Plus is a compact espresso machine with an automatic steam wand, built for people who want a real café latte at home without learning to texture milk by hand. It heats in about three seconds, pulls a shot through a 54 mm portafilter, and steams the milk to a temperature and texture you choose.
Steaming milk is the part that beats most people. The shot is the easy half; microfoam is where home lattes fall apart. The Bambino Plus takes that half off you: put the milk in the jug, pick a texture and temperature, and the wand works while you set the cup down. You are still making the coffee, just not fighting the hardest part.
Highlights
- Automatic steam wand with three texture levels and three temperature settings, so milk comes out the same each morning with no technique from you
- Manual mode on the same wand, so if you decide you want to learn to pour latte art, the machine does not stop you
- ThermoJet heating, ready in about 3 seconds, the difference between making espresso on a weekday and not bothering
- 54 mm commercial-style portafilter with an 18 gram dose, the same format serious machines use
- Low-pressure pre-infusion that wets the grounds gently before full extraction, which evens out the shot
- Both basket types included: dual wall baskets that forgive an imperfect grind, and single wall baskets for when you want to dial it in properly
- Razor dose trimming tool included, so you level the basket to the right dose without guessing
Who it's for
- Latte and flat white drinkers who want the café version at home and have no interest in learning to steam milk
- Small kitchens and apartments where a full setup will not fit
- Anyone starting out in espresso who wants room to grow into manual technique later
Two things worth knowing before you buy. This machine does not have a grinder, so you will need a separate one and fresh beans to get the best out of it. And it is not a one-button machine: you fill the basket and pull the shot yourself. If you would rather press a button and walk away, call us or visit the showroom and we will show you the machines that do that instead.
Living with it
After each session, purge and wipe the steam wand and knock out the puck. Milk left in a wand is the fastest way to ruin one, and thirty seconds now saves a service call later.
Then periodically, the machine tells you when it wants a cleaning cycle and when it needs descaling, and the cleaning tablets and descaling powder for the first rounds are in the box. If your water is hard, descaling comes around sooner. The lights on the front panel are how the machine talks to you, so keep the manual handy for the first few weeks.
FAQs
-
Does it come with a grinder?
No. The Bambino Plus is the espresso machine only, and it needs freshly ground coffee to perform. Budget for a separate burr grinder, or come to the showroom and we will help you work out what pairing suits how you drink. -
What size portafilter does it take?
54 mm, which is Breville's standard size, with a dose of about 18 grams in the double basket. Tampers and accessories need to be 54 mm rather than the 58 mm size used by commercial machines. -
Do I have to know how to steam milk?
No. Set the texture and temperature, put the jug in place, and the automatic wand stops on its own. When you want to learn, the same wand switches to manual so you can texture milk yourself. -
What is the difference between the two basket types?
Dual wall baskets are forgiving: they build pressure for you, so supermarket or slightly stale coffee still produces crema. Single wall baskets give you real control and reward a good grinder and a fresh grind. Both are in the box, so start with dual wall and move over when ready. -
How do I clean and descale it?
Purge and wipe the steam wand after every use and knock the puck out. Beyond that the machine prompts a cleaning cycle and a descale when they are due, and the tablets and descaling powder to do both are included. -
Who handles warranty and service in Canada?
Breville products are covered and serviced directly by Breville Canada, reachable at 1-855-683-3535. We are still here to help you get set up and to answer questions about using the machine, before and after you buy.
