Independent bottling breathes new life into legendary distilleries. Gordon & Macphail snagged prime spirit from Glen Grant, yielding something utterly magnetic. For their Discovery series, they locked this Speyside malt away for 11 years. By relying strictly on premium ex-bourbon barrels, they ensure the distillate’s pristine, fruity DNA takes center stage rather than getting buried underneath heavy, overbearing sherry influences. It strips away the pretense.
Maturation in American oak fundamentally rewires the flavor profile. These meticulously chosen casks inject a lush, tropical vibrance into the liquid that feels entirely unexpected for a traditional, old-school Speyside release. You won't find any aggressive peat smoke or harsh ethanol burn lingering in the glass. It simply glides across the palate. The spirit interacts intensely with the wood over a decade, extracting brilliant layers of toasted coconut and zesty citrus while rounding off any sharp edges.
This expression demands your attention. The bright, elderflower-laced complexity makes it wildly versatile for any casual evening or serious tasting session. It completely upends expectations. A delicate balance of vibrant orchard fruits and lightly charred oak grounds the entire experience, unequivocally proving that independent curators possess the vision to elevate a familiar classic into uncharted territory.
- Matured exclusively in premium ex-bourbon casks
