Groth Estate Chardonnay from Groth Vineyards is grown at the sustainably farmed Hillview Vineyard in Napa Valley. Cool breezes from nearby San Pablo Bay help the grapes hold on to bright acidity and a mineral edge. The notes below are for the 2022 vintage, the one currently in stock.
Most of the fruit is pressed as whole clusters for delicate flavor. The wine ferments in French oak barrels, 14% of them new, and then rests on its lees for eight months.
Aromas of vanilla custard, crisp green apple, melon and apricot open up in the glass. The palate is rich with stone fruit and a zesty orange lift, and it finishes with a hint of toasted brioche. Serve it chilled with roast chicken, crab or creamy pasta, or compare it with other Napa Chardonnay wines.
