Lammidia Rosso Carbo is 100% Montepulciano from Villa Celiera in the Pescara province of Abruzzo, grown organically at roughly 714 meters above sea level inside Gran Sasso National Park. The grapes are trained on the traditional Pergola Abruzzese system, which lifts the canopy and protects against summer heat at this elevation. Soils are clay and limestone.
The wine is made by full carbonic maceration, where whole bunches ferment intracellularly before pressing. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts. Nothing is added — no sulfites, no fining agents — and the wine is not filtered. The result strips Montepulciano of its usual tannic grip and dark brooding weight, pulling out a lighter, brighter, more aromatic side of the grape.
At 11% ABV, Rosso Carbo sits firmly in glou-glou territory: low tannin, lively acidity, vivid red fruit character dominated by wild strawberry and tart cherry. A touch of volatile acidity gives the wine lift and keeps it energetic on the palate. Serve it cool, around 55-58F, straight from the fridge for 10 minutes if needed.
