Introduction
Road 13 John Oliver Malbec is a premium red wine from the Golden Mile Bench sub-GI in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 2003 by Pam and Mick Luckhurst on the site of a former orchard, the winery is now owned by the von Mandl Family Estates, which continues its legacy of crafting bold wines that reflect the southern Okanagan terroir. The winemaking philosophy is rooted in a 'hands in the soil' approach, emphasizing sustainable farming and a deep respect for the land to produce wines with intense, balanced flavours.
Wine Description
This full-bodied Malbec is characterized by a rich sensory profile and elegant structure. On the nose, it offers deep aromatics of dark cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant, complemented by earthy tones and hints of spice. The palate is lush and layered, featuring flavours of dark chocolate covered blueberries and cherry Nibs balanced by vibrant acidity and polished tannins. The finish is lengthy, showing subtle notes of caramel, vanilla, and glossy oak. This wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, of which 45% were new, to enhance its complexity and texture. While Road 13 follows a rigorous organic program and farms sustainably, specific organic certification for this bottling is not explicitly noted. The wine has an ABV of 13.5%.
